The Costs of Poor Quality (COPQ) is the sum of all the costs generated by the production of bad quality and working with unefficient processes. According to Dr. Armand Feigenbaum: "The cost of quality can be 25% or more in sales, most of which is failure." (Interview Industry Week July 4,1994). This is what he called the "hidden factory".
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a holistic management approach based on continuous quality and process improvement at all level and in all departments of an organization.
W. Edwards Deming, in his famous book "Out of the crisis", defined the improvement of quality as the "transfer of waste of man-hours and of machine-time into the manufacture of good product and better service. The result is a chain reaction: lower costs, better competitive position, happier people on the job, jobs and more jobs."
